Our Kdg-3rd grade science teacher, Ms. Warner, does some great stuff in her class. This is one of the projects she has her 3rd graders doing now. As part of a large unit on "Space", she has them design and build Mars landers. Each student has to have a blueprint and rational for all the parts of their spaceship. How does it collect samples? How does it communicate back to earth? How does it travel across the surface of the planet?
Once the students get their plan, they begin building. Using everything from string, to old vitamin bottles, to plastic Easter eggs, these kids become engineers as they bring their ideas to life.
It has been my pleasure this year to be asked to help out with the "making" phase of this unit. I join the 3rd grade classes in the science room and help them cut, hot glue, hole punch, etc.
Can't wait to see the final products.
